Mahindra just gave us a sneak peek into the future with the Vision T concept, unveiled at their “Freedom NU” event. Think of it as a more refined version of the Thar.e concept we saw in 2023. This isn’t just a fancy show car; it’s a bold statement of where Mahindra is headed, blending its famous rugged heritage with some seriously futuristic design and tech. The whole thing is built on the new NU_IQ platform, which is super flexible and can be used for everything from traditional gas engines to hybrids and full EVs. We should start seeing production models based on this platform hitting the streets sometime around 2027.
A Rugged and Futuristic Look
The Vision T’s exterior is a perfect mix of old-school toughness and modern style. It has that classic, boxy, and upright stance that reminds you of the Thar, but with some very cool, modern touches.
* The Front: It sports a new six-slat grille and a tough-looking bumper with a bright yellow tow hook. The lighting is a real standout, with squared-off LED headlights and four individual LED daytime running lights (DRLs) that give it a unique look.
* The Side: From the side, you’ll notice the flat body panels, big, flared wheel arches, and chunky all-terrain tires. The exposed door hinges and bonnet latches are a nice nod to its off-road roots. It also has a floating roof and luggage racks on the rear windows, which adds to its adventurous vibe.
* The Back: The back of the car continues the theme with vertical LED tail lights that mirror the DRLs up front. And of course, no rugged SUV would be complete without a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate.
Inside: Toughness Meets High-Tech
Inside, the Vision T concept is all about blending durability with the latest technology. The cabin has a clean, upright dashboard design with a classy navy blue and grey color scheme.
* The Screens: The highlight is definitely the new dual-screen setup. There’s a big, portrait-oriented touchscreen for the infotainment and a fully digital driver’s display, all neatly integrated into a single curved panel.
* The Controls: Even with all the screens, Mahindra kept plenty of physical buttons and toggles on the center console for things you need to adjust quickly. It’s a smart balance between modern tech and ease of use.
* The Steering Wheel: The new 3-spoke steering wheel is cool, with integrated controls and a unique starter button right on the wheel itself—a nice, sporty touch.
* Other Features: Thanks to the flat floor of the NU_IQ platform, the cabin is expected to be really spacious. The concept also features leatherette seats with neat white stitching and a panoramic sunroof.

The Platform That Changes Everything
The Vision T is built on Mahindra’s brand new NU_IQ modular monocoque platform. This is a huge deal for Mahindra’s future plans because of how flexible it is.
* Versatility: The platform can be used for SUVs of different sizes, from just under 4 meters to over 4.3 meters long. It’s designed to handle petrol, diesel, and all-electric powertrains.
* Off-road Ready: The platform is engineered to be great off-road, with excellent approach, departure, and breakover angles.
* Spaciousness: The flat floor design means more space inside for you and your stuff. The Vision T has a 2,665mm wheelbase, which Mahindra says will give it class-leading interior room.
* Drivetrain: The production version will likely come with both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options. For the EV version, it’s expected to use a reliable LFP battery pack.
