The launch of the Maruti Suzuki e-VITARA is a huge moment, not just for the company, but for India’s place in the global EV world. This car is their first battery-electric vehicle (BEV), made right here in India, and it’s being shipped to over 100 countries, including places with tough markets like Europe and Japan. This is a big move that shows Maruti Suzuki is serious about a global electric future, proving India can build sophisticated, world-class cars.
Built for the World
The e-VITARA is a true ground-up electric vehicle. It’s built on a brand-new platform developed with Toyota, meaning it’s not just an electric version of an old model. This platform is designed to meet strict global safety standards, from Euro NCAP to Japanese crash regulations. It’s powered by BYD’s LFP blade-cell batteries, with two options: a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh pack.
The larger 61 kWh battery offers an impressive range. The front-wheel-drive version gets a WLTP-claimed range of up to 426 km, while the all-wheel-drive model has a range of 395 km. This range, along with its tough build and advanced safety features, makes the e-VITARA a real contender in the global electric SUV market.
Tech and Design
The e-VITARA has a sleek, modern design that still looks like a strong SUV. Its smooth shape, along with a smart grille and vents, helps it go farther on a single charge. Inside, it’s roomy and packed with features. It has a big, 25.65cm infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 26.04cm driver display.
Technology is a major highlight. The e-VITARA includes a Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). This means it has things like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Blind Spot Monitoring, which make driving safer and easier. The car also lets you choose different drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport) and even has a Snow mode for better grip.

A Bold Global Move
Sending the e-VITARA to over 100 countries as its first global EV is a strong statement from Maruti Suzuki. It shows they’re moving beyond just the domestic market to play a big role globally. The plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat, is now the worldwide hub for the e-VITARA, building both right- and left-hand drive versions. This is a key part of Suzuki’s bigger plan to invest heavily in India, making it a central production base for their future growth. The e-VITARA is more than just a car; it’s proof of the “Make in India” initiative and a huge step toward an electric future for the company and the country.
